1947 Chevrolet 2 Ton COE (Cab Over Engine) TruckPlease click on any picture to see it in larger format.Use your Back Key from any large picture to come back to this page Please. In 2014 we bought this truck from a shop in Denver Colorado. We had it shipped to Las Vegas and had it stored for several months until we had the room to get it home. At home we can now start working on it. We had it shipped to Las Vegas and had it stored for several months until we had the room to get it home.
Of course we had to cover it to keep people from nosing around and taking stuff off of the truck. So what are we going to do with this project? We had it transported to our home. We had the cab in the bed dropped on the ground. We have them covered to keep prying eyes off of them. Now we need to obtain a clear title. Get it running. The next step is to get insurance on it maybe from Grundy. Deliver it running to Nevada DMV and have the title transferred to our name in Nevada and get it registered with a plate so we could drive it like it is. We won’t but we could. We are going to start ripping and rodding it though. Then we can start our “modification to a rod” at this time. By doing things this way we will have a 1947 build year not a 2016 build year when we are finished. So when we “really” start what are we going to end up with? Our goal is to have a COE Crew Cab that will tow a 5th wheel travel trailer so we can tour the country. We will have an old rebuilt and rodded up Caddy 501cui engine with a TH700R transmission that we will mount mid-frame driving a single axle with a set of duels. The crew cab will flip forward at the front bumper to reveal the engine. The crew cab will have a killer stereo, 6 way powered bucket seats. To do this we will graft the cab in the bed to the back of the one on the frame. Take out all of the running gear from the radiator to the rear end and sell it or pitch it. We will take the bed off and reuse parts of it for our 5th wheel bed. We will take the bed tilt equipment and sell them or pitch them. From there we will build the cab flip system by hand. Run the new wiring, new brake system and a raft of other crap to get this finished. All while working on our regular jobs. Nearly everything that made this run will be stripped off of this truck and pitched or sold. So if you know anyone who is looking for running gear from a 47 – 53,4 Chevy COE let me know please. Everything from the radiator to the 2 speed rear end, the dump bed equipment including the PTO, the hydraulic ram and all of the hoses. Everything except the bed. The tires and wheels are going to be stripped off as well. Everything is as is where is, you come and load it and take it. I do not use Bondo. I do things the old school way and use lead for all my body work. We do nearly all of the work ourselves except the upholstery and the glass. So that is our plan. Keep coming back to see how far we have gotten with our build. The title and registration should take until the end of this (2014) year so we'll see ya all next year. Other current pictures of our truck in its current condition.
Just a note on the side: I do not work on anyone’s cars but my own so please do not ask. You cannot afford me and the city will not allow me and I don't want to work that hard for someone else. The truth is I don’t want to work on my own stuff let alone anybody else’s stuff. Occasionally I work on our kid’s cars to help them. This page last updated on 10/25/2014 |
